The order is one of the largest ever for the German group’s growing concentrating solar power (CSP) business.

The contract, awarded by the project’s turnkey contractor UTE Termosolar Olivenza, covers 123 loops of parabolic-trough collectors and the necessary receivers.

The company did not say if Olivenza 1 will include energy-storage capability, as an increasing number of CSP projects do.

Siemens has been one of the world’s only suppliers of receivers for parabolic-trough installations since its $418m acquisition of Israel’s Solel in 2009, though it is beginning to see increased competition from players like Schott Solar.
