MEMC did not reveal the production capacity of the facility, which is located on the outskirts of Toronto and owned with Singapore-based manufacturing services provider Flextronics.
Missouri, US-based MEMC says the modules will feed the pipeline of SunEdison, which has been granted more than 60MW of projects under the Ontario Power Authority feed-in tariff (FIT) programme.
MEMC acknowledges that the hiring spree is the “direct result” of Ontario’s 60% domestic-content requirement for equipment used in projects eligible for its FIT.
