The US installed more than 1,046MW in the first nine months of the year, compared to a record 887MW in all of 2010, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and GTM Research.

The US has now installed a total of 3.1GW of grid-connected PV.

The gains come on the back of rapid module price declines thanks to a massive increase in supply from Chinese producers and a decline in European demand.
