The company says it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Yancheng city in Jiangsu to explore development of large-scale solar projects “over the next few years” in the city’s vast, deserted mudflats.

It did not give a precise number for how many megawatts it hoped to install.

Trina’s move comes as Beijing draws close to finalising new rules to support distributed solar power, or solar projects that generate electricity for consumption by the project owner, rather than the grid.

China
