Additional power could also come on line as the private sector begins investing in utility-scale PV, says ClearSky Advisors.

The news comes as Portugal’s Martifer Solar revealed it has signed an agreement with Consorcio Integrador Sonora 80M (CIS) to build a 20MW PV project in Hermosillo, in Mexico’s Sonora state.

CIS, a Mexican/Spanish joint venture, has signed several 25-year power-purchase agreements with local municipalities, including Empalme and Guaymas, and a first phase should be running this year.
