The project, called Sunny Bangchak, is the largest solar facility in Southeast Asia, according to Chinese PV group Suntech, which supplied the modules.

The plant is a step towards Thailand's ambitious goal of meeting 20% of its total energy consumption with renewable sources by 2022, says Suntech.

Sunny Bangchak – which was built by contractor Solartron – is set to become a tourist attraction in Thailand, with a visitor centre and trips by schoolchildren.
