Consultancy Senergy Econnect’s study, which ran the rule over the development plans and grid-connection capacities of offshore wind projects now underway in Britain, suggests its government’s current goal of 18GW by the end of the decade could be outstripped as early as 2017.

The report says barriers to offshore wind growth include Round 3 projects being as far as 290km off the coast – compared to Round 1 and 2 projects, which are no more than 32km offshore.
