BrightSource Energy, the solar power tower developer, picks up the partially-permitted 500MW Palen project. US renewable energy giant NextEra Energy Resources adds the 1GW Blythe project to its growing solar stable.
The fully-permitted project on federal land in the Mojave Desert was originally planned as a parabolic trough plant. Solar Trust of America (STA) planned to switch at least part of the project to PV before it fell apart.
