The Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore independently confirmed the efficiency of the improved Pluto cell, which was developed with the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia.
Suntech, the world’s largest producer of solar panels, says the new record is a “significant improvement” over the 19.6% achieved by the first generation Pluto cell. With further fine-tuning, the cell’s efficiency is expected to reach 21% “in the next six to 12 months”.
