Eskom gets EIB CSP backing

South African utility Eskom has secured a €75m ($100m) finance contract from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support its 100MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant close to Upington in the Northern Cape.

The project is being co-financed with the African Development Bank, Agence Française de Développement, Clean Technology Fund (CTF), KfW and the World Bank.

This latest finance deal comes within days of the $130m agreement EIB signed with the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) to part-finance Abengoa's 100MW KaXu CSP in the same region.
