Recurrent 20th Ontario project starts

Recurrent Energy says the 10MW (DC) Sunningdale solar PV facility is now in commercial operation, the last of 20 projects totaling 220MW (DC) it has developed in southern Ontario.

The Sunningdale project is located near the City of London. It will provide electricity to the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) for the next 20 years through feed-in-tariff agreements and power about 1,200 homes.

"The completion of the Sunningdale solar project is the final exclamation mark in a historic year for Recurrent Energy," says Recurrent chief executive Arno Harris.

In March, Toronto-based Fengate Capital Management announced the financial close of an investment in the project, which it has now acquired after start of commercial operation.

"Solar facilities like Sunningdale offer attractive long-term returns to our clients and help our country meet its energy needs sustainably," says George Theodoropoulos, managing director infrastructure, of Fengate Capital.

Recurrent says the 20 solar projects generate enough clean energy to power roughly 26,500 Ontario homes a year.
