Having recently finalised its $2.1bn acquisition of SolarCity, Tesla on Tuesday answered several important outstanding questions about SolarCity’s PV factory being built in upstate New York, including how its relationship with Japan’s Panasonic will work.
To start, the cell and module plant in Buffalo, New York will be a Tesla factory in name and deed only; Panasonic will cover any required capital costs, operate the manufacturing facility, and sell the finished modules to Tesla through a long-term purchase commitment.
