The government’s policy priority is making renewable energy a viable means to generate electricity, according to Kardaya Warnika, acting director-general for renewables and energy conservation at the ministry for enegy and mineral resources.

The government plans to increase renewable energy’s current 5% share of total generation to 17% by 2025.

As part of its green growth drive, Indonesia plans to replace all street lamps with solar cell lamps, Kardaya adds, while all shopping centres in major cities should stop using power from the grid and install solar panels on their roofs.
