With the expiration of its existing policy framework – and its flagship 20% by 2020 renewable energy target – a “mere eight years away”, the EC concedes that its original plan to present a new one as late as 2018 has been overtaken by events.
In a statement setting out options for beyond 2020, the EC says the current economic and financial situation has made investors nervous about backing the “policy-dependent” renewables sector.
