Ours are better than Chinese, says turbine group

Indian turbine makers say they enjoy an advantage over Chinese competitors in terms of quality.

India implemented “a robust certification” policy in the late 1990s after experiencing quality problems from “fly by night” operators in 1994-96, says DV Giri, chairman of the Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association.

“The government stepped in with a list of recommended machine manufacturers drawn up by the Centre for Wind Energy Technology so that utilities know they are not getting bad machines,” he says.

“This is unlike what has happened in China, where we have heard that up to 35% of machines have been disconnected from the grid because of quality issues.”
