Scotrenewables has secured an agreement-for-lease to build a 30MW tidal array

Three new tidal power projects can move forward in UK waters following the award of development sites by The Crown Estate.

Scotland’s Scotrenewables has secured an agreement-for-lease to build a 30MW tidal stream array at Lashy Sound, in the Orkney Islands, using a 2MW version of its tidal turbine, which has been tested as a 250kW device at the European Marine Energy Centre (Emec).

Swedish technology developer Minesto will deploy a quarter-scale 3kW prototype of its Deep Green Ocean Kite on an awarded site in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland, for a two-year trial.
