Emec joins US wave-power groups for Pacific test centre

The European Marine Energy Centre (Emec) is to help its US counterparts to set up and run a new wave-power testing facility in the Pacific Northwest.

Scotland-based Emec will work with Oregon Wave Energy Trust (OWET) and the Northwest National Marine Renewable Energy Centre (NNMREC) on the initiative.

Under the collaborative deal, NNMREC’s Pacific Marine Energy Centre (PMEC) will be developed into a grid-connected ocean test facility for prototype and commercial-scale devices.

It is hoped this will help to remove a major barrier to the development of marine-energy technology in the US by providing the region's first standardised testing facilities with “real-world” conditions.
