Vattenfall, Babcock and Abengoa link for marine energy EPC

Nautimus is expected to work on the Pelamis testing programme

Swedish utility Vattenfall has joined forces with the UK’s Babcock and Spanish renewables specialist Abengoa to launch a new engineering services company focused on ocean energy.

The trio's new Scottish operation, called Nautimus, will provide “technology-neutral” engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for wave and tidal-power project developers.

Its first client is likely to be Aegir, the development company set up by Vattenfall and Pelamis Wave Power to build a 10MW array off Shetland starting in 2016.

Nautimus is expected to work alongside Vattenfall and Pelamis during the upcoming testing programme of a P2 wave-energy device at Orkney’s European Marine Energy Centre (Emec).
