Tidal Energy raises DeltaStream ambitions after UK lease win

Tidal Energy was one of the technology developers to secure a lease

Marine renewable energy company Tidal Energy Ltd (TEL) has expanded its deployment ambitions for its 1.2MW DeltaStream device, following the award by the UK Crown Estate of a lease for a project site off St David’s Head, Wales.

Along with its existing test site off Ramsey Sound, Pembrokeshire, for which TEL has secured £12m of funding for the deployment of a single tidal-power device, the company also plans to install a first array of up to 10MW by 2016-17.

The Crown Estate lease gives TEL and partner renewable energy developer Eco2 five years to carry out surveys, scoping and consultation, and to secure the necessary licences and operating consents from the Welsh government and Marine Management Organisation.
