Fred Olsen wave device is first in the water at UK's FabTest

The Bolt Lifesaver will undergo trials at FabTest

UK wave-power testing facility FabTest has deployed the first device in its waters off Falmouth Bay, southern England.

The Bolt Lifesaver – a 16-metre-diameter, open-centre point-absorber concept hatched by Norway’s Fred Olsen – will undergo trials at the site in preparation for future tests at the grid-connected WaveHub facility, also off the coast of Cornwall.

Fred Olsen’s wave energy converter (WEC) was developed by a team that included UK marine engineers Supacat, tidal-device maker Scotrenewables and the University of Exeter.
