New partnership to develop Bluetec turbine hub

UK power-cable maker JDR has joined with Dutch offshore vessel specialist Bluewater Energy Services and Italian engineering group Ponte di Archimede (PdA) to develop a tidal-energy farm based on Bluewater's Bluetec floating turbine support structure.

Bluewater and PdA, which has designed a Darrieus-type horizontal-axis tidal turbine, have been refining Bluetec as a moored, wave-riding mini-hub capable of operating four tidal turbines of any design in all water depths.

JDR will bring its knowledge of intrafield cable layout and power-line designs to the venture.
