The 194-tonne full-scale device has been lowered onto its seabed sub-frame at the European Marine Energy Centre (ENEC) near Scotland’s Orkney. The next step will be to connect the Oyster device to subsea pipelines, ahead of grid connection and full sea trials later this year.

“Getting Oyster into the water and connected to the seabed was always going to be the most difficult step,” says Aquamarine chief executive Martin McAdam says.
