The first assembled 16-metre-diameter open-centre device was this week towed from DCNS’ shipyard in Brest for a series of commissioning tests at sea prior to installation at the site, which is being developed by French utility EDF off the island of Bréhat.

Deployment of the mated turbine and foundation base, which together weigh 850 tonnes and stand 22-metres tall on the seabed, is being handled by the custom-designed installation barge OpenHydro Triskell.
