The money, awarded under the state’s Sustainable Energy Pilot Demonstration Programme, will be put toward a A$14m project to commercialise a 250kW wave-energy system at a grid-connected site near Port Fairy.

BPS’s multi-blade bioWave device sways back and forth beneath the waves generating energy via the company’s self-contained “O-Drive” module, which converts oscillating forces to electricity using hydraulics.

The concept was inspired by the motion of large sea-plants under wave action, says BPS.
