UK's ETI closes in on Wave Hub floating wind turbine descision

The UK’s Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) will make a decision soon over installation of its floating wind turbine prototype at the Wave Hub testing centre off southwest England, Recharge has learned.

Following initial studies, government-backed research body the ETI and Wave Hub have agreed to move to the next phase of the £25m ($40m) demonstrator project. That will involve further technical studies and site investigations.

Discussions are also underway with the UK’s Crown Estate to nail-down the terms of a lease for one of the fourth berths at Wave Hub, a seabed "socket" located 27km offshore in 50 metres of water off Cornwall.
