UK backs energy storage with $32m for competition winners

The UK Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has stumped up £20m ($32m) for two energy-storage technology competitions aimed at spurring progress in the sector.

The first, a £17m demonstration scheme, is targeted at companies looking to fine-tune and test large-scale concepts currently in the early stages of development.

A further £3m will be up for grabs as part of a component research and feasibility study competition, exploring integration of energy storage technology onto the UK grid.
