Car emission cutting target must avoid charging paradox

The car industry has been set a target of halving emissions by 2050, but warned it makes no sense to charge electric vehicles from greenhouse gas producing power sources.

A roadmap towards greater global fuel economy was presented by a joint international agency at the Geneva Motor Show.

The ’50 by 50’ initiative by Global Fuel Economy Initiative (GFEI) says annual savings of six billion barrels of oil and 2 gigatonnes of carbon dioxide – equivalent to half the total current annual emissions of the EU - are achievable through an ambitious worldwide programme.
