China orders release of $1.4bn more in back-subsidies

China will pay out 8.6bn yuan ($1.4bn) in subsidies for renewable energy generated this year, in another small step towards easing cash flow pressure on developers.

The Ministry of Finance has ordered provincial governments to release the funds to local grid companies within three working days to pay for the power generated by solar, wind and biomass projects during 2012.

The payment is thought to be only a small part of what is owed to developers for all renewable energy generated during 2012, but it goes some way to alleviating pressure from outstanding payments worth billions of yuan.
