Research claims UK press is biased against renewables

As it digests the results of a judge-led inquiry into its conduct, the UK’s national media was today deemed guilty of bias against renewables.

London-based communications specialist CCGroup analysed 138 articles in the UK’s five best-selling newspapers during July of this year, and claims 51% were negative towards renewables compared with 21% that were positive. The rest were judged neutral.

The coverage analysed by CCGroup was dominated by wind-power – a hugely controversial subject in UK politics and media – which received a 58% negative coverage share.

Other renewable sources such as solar, hydropower and wave energy barely registered in comparison.
