Sunergy starts Turkish production ahead of EU tariff threat

Solar module maker China Sunergy will start manufacturing in Turkey next month as it seeks to avoid future impact from anti-dumping tariffs that could be imposed by the EU – one of the firm’s key markets.

Sunergy has moved “the first” 100MW of cell and module capacity from its Shanghai facility to Istanbul and expects to start production in late December, chief executive Stephen Cai told financial analysts.

The EU launched a probe into alleged dumping of Chinese solar products in September and followed it up with an anti-subsidy investigation last month. It is expected to conclude its findings within a year of the launch dates.
