Brazil awards wind contracts at record low prices in A5 tender

Brazil awarded contracts to four developers to sell 281.9MW of capacity from 10 wind farms at an average rate of R$87.94/MWh in its A-5 power tender, national energy agency EPE says.

The four developers which won contracts at the auction were Enerfin Sociedad de Energia, Renova Energia, EGP - Serra Azul and Bioenergy Geradora de Energia. The lowest prices at the auction were R$87.77/MWh for projects being developed by Bioenergy.

Average prices were 12% cheaper than the R$99.58/MWh average price in the August 2011. At the time, this was widely considered the lowest price for wind power in the world.
