Japan's
Liberal
Democratic
Party
(LDP)
returned
to
power
in
a
landslide
election
win
over
the
Democratic
Party
of
Japan
(DPJ)
earlier
this
week,
taking
a
two-thirds
majority
in
the
lower
house
of
the
Diet
with
its
coalition
partner,
New
Komeito.
The
national
elections
were
the
first
since
the
March
2011
earthquake
triggered
the
Fukushima
nuclear
power
plant
disaster,
which
led
to
the
evacuation
of
100,000
people
and
calls
for
an
end
to
nuclear
power
in
the
earthquake-prone
country.
