President Barack Obama could find himself with a stronger hand to play after November's elections

The fledgling US offshore wind industry has had a good summer.

Polls show President Barack Obama, a big supporter, has opened a narrow but steady lead in his bid for a second term over Republican challenger Mitt Romney, who opposes government support for renewable energy.

Democrats are expected to retain control of the Senate and reduce the 49-seat Republican majority in the House of Representatives. If this plays out in 6 November elections, Obama will be in a stronger political position to pursue an agenda that Republicans in Congress have sought to obstruct.
