Renewables Obligation may need extension, UK wind body warns

Wind industry trade body RenewableUK has called on Britain’s government not to close off the option of extending the current Renewables Obligation support scheme beyond 2017, fearing delays in the transition to the proposed Contracts for Difference (CFD) mechanism that will replace it.

In a submission on the government’s Energy Bill, RenewableUK director of policy Gordon Edge warns that draft legislation “does does not yet contain sufficient detail to allay investor concerns about how the new system will work, especially during the critical period following 2017 when the Renewables Obligation ends”.
