Delay ding-dong as industry awaits crucial UK power reforms

The UK government swiftly shot down a report that its Electricity Market Reform (EMR) package will not be aired in the next session of parliament – but not before an outcry from the energy sector proved just how desperate investors are for details of the legislation.

The BBC reported yesterday that EMR had been bumped from the upcoming Queen’s Speech, which is used to lay out the legislative programme for the forthcoming parliamentary session.

The UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) was quick to deny the report, telling the BBC it was “categorically untrue”.

Euan McVicar, a partner at Pinsent Masons law firm specialising in energy, says that even if the legislation were delayed, it “would not be a complete disaster”.
