Alto Sertão wind income propels Brazil's Renova into big league

Renova Energia, the Brazilian renewable energy group, saw its third-quarter revenues boom by almost 500% following the completion of its 294MW Alto Sertão I wind project – even though none of its power is flowing to the grid.

GE supplied the Alto Sertão I project with 184 1.6 XLE machines, which were ready to go by July.

Although the wind complex is not providing power to the grid because transmission lines are not ready, Brazilian electricity regulator Aneel, approved payment for contracted power to start because Renova is not at fault for the delay, which is expected to last until September next year.
