Renewables industry should be key focus for UK, says CBI

UK business group the CBI has put renewable energy technology and services at the heart of a new industrial development plan it claims could translate into a total of £30bn ($47.8bn) in exports by the end of the decade.

In a new report called Playing Our Strongest Hand the CBI claims green technology should be one of the key sectors to benefit from its plan to generate growth in areas where the UK has a “competitive advantage”. Others include the aerospace and auto industries.

It wants the British government to provide focus for “at least 10 years ahead” by adopting long-term policies that match the investment timescales of business.
