Former UK energy minister blasts successor over wind

The UK’s former energy minister Charles Hendry has delivered a stinging attack on his successor for sending mixed messages over the government’s commitment to renewables.

Hendry, who lost his job in a September government reshuffle, warned that the UK was in danger of losing major investments in green technologies.

He said it is not possible to have energy security without renewables and it is vital that ministers keep up a “constructive engagement” with the industry.

Hendry’s intervention came after his successor John Hayes split the coalition government by suggesting in newspaper interviews that the country was “peppered” with onshore wind farms and that “enough is enough” .
