Taiwanese solar equipment giants play down takeover talk

Motech Industries – Taiwan’s largest solar company – has dismissed as “speculation” claims that it is in talks to takeover its compatriot and rival PV firm Neo Solar Power.

A report in the Economic Daily News, says executives from the two firms had reached a consensus on the merger but were still discussing details on payment terms.

Unnamed sources cited by the newspaper noted that the two companies have similar corporate culture, as management from both used to work at Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing.

Both also have “distinctive technologies”, allowing them to enhance their international competitiveness through a merger, it adds.

However, in a statement issued yesterday, Motech says: “The news is speculative reporting. The company has no comment on this matter.”
