Vattenfall shake-up brings wind into the mainstream

Swedish utility Vattenfall will bring wind power into the centre of its operations when a shake-up of its organisational structure takes effect later this week.

Wind generation – which currently sits alone in Vattenfall’s Renewables business unit – will from Thursday join biomass in a revamped Production division along with all other energy sources except nuclear, which gets its own arm.

New wind projects will join a newly-formed Sustainable Energy Projects segment.

As part of the restructuring, the current head of Vattenfall’s Renewables division Anders Dahl will lead a newly-formed Distribution and Sales operation.

Former acting chief financial officer Peter Smink will lead Sustainable Energy Projects, while the Production arm, now including wind, remains under existing head Tuomo Hatakka.
