REC unveils changes at the top as it holds out for a PV upturn

Norwegian PV manufacturer REC insists the sector will eventually turn the corner, describing current market conditions as “unsustainable” as it unveiled changes to its senior management.

The Oslo-based group – which has undergone major restructuring and cost-cutting over the past year – says prices continued to fall in the third quarter of the year, down by 10% for both polysilicon and modules compared to the previous three months.

REC had already warned investors that its third-quarter results would miss expectations, and duly announced a loss on continuing operations of NKr452m ($78.5m).

Chief executive Ole Enger says: "Current solar market conditions are unsustainable with spot prices below cash cost for all market participants.”
