National Grid will manage key elements of EMR

The UK’s National Grid has issued a call for evidence as it helps to develop key elements of the country’s electricity market reform (EMR) plans.

The network operator is gathering evidence to help determine the strike prices that underpin the renewables contracts-for-difference (CfD) mechanism at the heart of the EMR proposals.

National Grid will act as the UK government’s delivery agent for the new scheme, which is slated to replace the existing Renewables Obligation (RO) system after 2017.

It wants to gather input on the most up-to-date technology and deployment costs, and to “understand the differences in investment decisions under the Renewables Obligation and CfD, and how choices will be made between the two mechanisms".
