UK hires first chief executive for Green Investment Bank

The GIB has already named offshore wind as a priority area

The UK government has named Shaun Kingsbury as the first chief executive of the country’s Green Investment Bank (GIB).

Kingsbury joins the GIB from private equity group Hudson Clean Energy Partners where he was head of European activities.

The GIB is intended to help kick-start investment in major low-carbon projects in the UK – and has already named offshore wind as one of its first priority areas.

With bases in Edinburgh and London, the GIB hopes to attract some £15bn ($24.3bn) of investment on the back of its initial £3bn of government capital. However, it will not have full borrowing powers until 2015.
