Mainstream pins down $77m finance from Macquarie

Ireland-based Mainstream Renewable Power (MRP) says it has pinned down €40m ($51.1m) in immediate finance from the Macquarie Group, with another €20m to come in future, as it moves 325MW of wind and PV projects into construction across three continents.

MRP also reveals that it has raised €16.8m from “high net worth individuals” for its Energy Bridge project, which seeks to build a 5GW transmission line dedicated to exporting green electricity from Ireland to Great Britain.

MRP, which is about to commission its first onshore wind farm in Ireland, says the Energy Bridge will be up and running as soon as 2017.

The latest round of fundraising brings the total investment raised by MRP to €265m, including the €20m Barclays Capital put down when the company was founded in 2008.
