Green Street: Why a management change could lead to a new, gentler approach at Sinovel

Sinovel officials are not saying much about the replacement of long-standing president Han Junliang with Wei Wenyuan.

But the move could mean a change in the way the turbine manufacturer is managed.

Sinovel is in trouble. Like other Chinese wind companies, it has seen operating profits plummet and inventories soar because of the slowdown in local installations and the price war that has accompanied it.

Han drove expansion of Sinovel at breakneck speed and was adept at using his political contacts to win turbine contracts at almost any price. He gained a reputation for heavy-handed management,

and allegedly stretched relations with suppliers to near breaking point over payment timings.…
