Chinese PV big-hitters cut forecasts on trade row fears

Yingli expects to see a significant increase of demand in China in the second half

Chinese PV manufacturers Yingli and JA Solar have both cut their shipment forecasts for 2012, highlighting market uncertainty caused by the trade disputes buffeting the industry.

JA Solar now expects cell and module shipments to come in between 1.5GW and 1.8GW for the year, down from its previous forecast of 1.8GW-2GW.

The company posted a net loss of 457.8m yuan ($72.1m) for the April-June second quarter, double the deficit recorded at the same stage last year.

JA Solar’s quarterly revenue fell 32% to 1.8bn yuan from a year-earlier 2.7bn yuan.

In Yingli’s case, 2012 module shipment guidance is being cut to 2.1GW to 2.2GW, an increase of between about 31% and 37% compared to 2011’s level. It had previously forecast…
