Romney’s attitude to renewables could harm the planet and help to destroy 37,000 jobs

The battle is on for the White House and — as the old adage goes — truth seems to be an early casualty. At least nobody can argue that energy is being ignored by Barack Obama or Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, but facts are being used selectively.

Romney’s “ Plan For a Stronger Middle Class” — a key part of how he proposes to bring economic prosperity back to America — opens with a blast at Obama’s approach to industry.

“Unfortunately, the first three years of the Obama administration have witnessed energy and environmental policies that have stifled the domestic energy sector,” thunders the challenger.

“The President and the regulatory bodies under his control have taken measures to limit energy exploration and restrict development in ways that sap economic performance, curtail growth and kill jobs.”
