'Sun King' Shi steps aside as chief executive of Suntech

Suntech founder Shi Zhengrong is stepping down as chief executive of the world’s biggest module maker as the firm seeks to remain at the forefront of an increasingly turbulent solar market.

Shi – who started the Chinese PV company eleven years ago – is replaced by David King, who joined Suntech last year as chief financial officer (CFO).

King arrived from US engineering consultants Tetra Tech, where he was CFO, and previously held finance posts at Walt Disney Imagineering and Bechtel.

Shi will continue as executive chairman and take on the role of chief strategy officer.
