New wind brings some cheer for Denmark's Dong Energy

Denmark’s Dong Energy saw a big ramp-up in profits from its wind power operations in the first half of 2012 as it felt the benefits of output from new capacity in a generally tough six months.

Dong's wind operations recorded earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) of DKr1.48bn ($244m) in the January-June period, against DKr807m in the same six months last year.

Wind power revenues rose to DKr3.54bn from DKr1.81bn last time.

The contributions of output from its Walney 1 and 2 offshore wind farms in the UK and income from construction contracts helped drive up performance, says Dong.

The Danish group spent DKr6.4bn on wind development in the six months, with the London Array (DKr2.3bn) and Walney (DKr1.5bn) accounting for most of the investment.
