US Army seeks $7bn of electricity via renewables PPAs

The US Army intends to buy up to $7bn in renewable electricity from large-scale wind, solar, geothermal and biomass plants to supply installations for terms as long as 30 years.

The US Army Corps of Engineers (Army Corps) issued a request for proposal with $7bn in "total contract capacity to procure reliable, locally generated, renewable and alternative energy through power purchase agreements". The contracts are to be awarded over the coming decade.

Army Secretary John M. McHugh says in a statement the acquisition plans demonstrate "a commitment toward installation energy security, mission readiness and resilience".
